V Rising Server Settings for PvE and PvP

Choosing the Right V Rising Server Settings

V Rising gives server administrators extensive control over gameplay through the ServerGameSettings.json file. The right settings depend entirely on your community: a relaxed PvE group exploring the new Oakveil Woodlands needs different tuning than a competitive PvP clan server with scheduled raid hours. This guide breaks down the most impactful settings for both play styles.

Core Settings That Apply to All Servers

Before diving into PvE or PvP specifics, several settings matter regardless of game mode.

Game Mode

"GameModeType": 0

Set to 0 for PvE or 1 for PvP. This is the foundation that determines whether players can damage each other and their castles.

Day and Night Cycle

"DayDurationInSeconds": 1080,
"BloodMoonFrequency": 1

The default day lasts 18 real-time minutes. Shorter days increase the pace of gameplay since vampires take sun damage during daytime. For casual servers, extending daylight slightly gives players more time for outdoor exploration. Blood Moon frequency affects how often special events occur.

Resource and Crafting Rates

"MaterialYieldModifier": 1.0,
"RefinementRateModifier": 1.0,
"CraftRateModifier": 1.0,
"ResearchCostModifier": 1.0

These multipliers control how fast players gather, process, and craft. The default value of 1.0 is balanced for groups of 2-4 players. Larger servers or more casual communities benefit from increasing these values.

Blood Drain and Sun Damage

"BloodDrainModifier": 1.0,
"SunDamageModifier": 1.0

Blood drain determines how quickly your blood pool depletes, while sun damage controls how lethal daytime exposure is. Reducing these makes the game more forgiving for newer players.

Best PvE Server Settings

PvE servers focus on cooperative boss hunting, castle building, and progression through V Blood encounters. The goal is to remove frustrating friction while preserving meaningful challenge from the game's bosses and environment.

Resource Gathering:

  • MaterialYieldModifier: 1.5 - Slightly increased to reduce grind for smaller groups
  • RefinementRateModifier: 2.0 - Faster refining so players spend less time waiting at stations
  • CraftRateModifier: 1.5 - Moderately faster crafting

Teleportation:

  • TeleportBoundItems: false - Allows teleporting while carrying resources. This is one of the most requested PvE changes since the default restriction forces tedious travel
  • BatBoundItems: false - Allows bat form travel with resources

Castle Settings:

  • CastleDecayRateModifier: 0.5 - Slower decay for players who cannot log in daily
  • CastleBloodEssenceDrainModifier: 0.5 - Reduced upkeep so castles are easier to maintain
  • CastleLimit: 2 - Allows players to have a second castle for outpost purposes

Difficulty:

  • VBloodUnitSettings: Adjust individual boss difficulty if certain fights prove too punishing for your group size
  • BloodDrainModifier: 0.75 - Slightly reduced drain for a more relaxed pace

PvE Tips

Disabling teleport restrictions is the single biggest quality-of-life improvement for PvE servers. It removes backtracking frustration without impacting cooperative gameplay. Increasing refinement rates to 2x or 3x also helps significantly because waiting at furnaces and workbenches is not engaging content for most PvE groups.

Best PvP Server Settings

PvP servers need balanced settings that reward skill and preparation while preventing dominant players from making the game unplayable for others. The key decisions are around castle raiding rules and death penalties.

Castle Damage:

  • CastleDamageMode: "TimeRestricted" - Only allow castle damage during specific hours
  • CastleHeartDamageMode: "CanBeDestroyedByPlayers" - Hearts can be destroyed but only during raid windows
  • TimeZone: Set to your community's primary time zone

Raid Windows: A typical weekday raid window might run from 18:00 to 22:00, with extended weekend hours. Configure VSCastleTimeRestrictionStart and VSCastleTimeRestrictionEnd to define these windows. This prevents offline raiding while keeping PvP meaningful.

Death Penalties:

  • BloodBoundEquipment: true - Equipment stays on death (reduces the punishment of losing a fight)
  • DeathContainerPermission: "Anyone" for hardcore servers, or "ClanMembers" for a gentler experience
  • DropTableModifier_Severities: Adjust to control how much loot drops on death

Player Damage:

  • PlayerDamageMode: "Always" for open-world PvP
  • SiegeWeaponHealth and PvPProtectionMode: Tune these to prevent griefing of new players

Contests (New in 1.1): The Invaders of Oakveil update added the Contests system for structured PvP. Encourage your community to use Dueling Banners and Arenas alongside open-world PvP for organized competitive play.

PvP Tips

Time-restricted castle damage is almost universally recommended for PvP servers. Without it, offline raiding drives players away quickly. A four-hour evening window on weekdays and a six-hour window on weekends gives enough raiding opportunity without requiring 24/7 defense.

Settings for Solo or Duo Play

Solo and duo players face a steeper curve because the game is balanced for groups. Consider these adjustments:

  • MaterialYieldModifier: 2.0 - Compensates for fewer gatherers
  • CraftRateModifier: 2.0 - Faster crafting since you lack the manpower to run multiple stations
  • TeleportBoundItems: false - Essential for solo play to avoid excessive travel
  • CastleBloodEssenceDrainModifier: 0.25 - Drastically reduced upkeep for a single player maintaining a castle
  • BloodDrainModifier: 0.5 - More forgiving blood management

Applying Your Settings

Edit the ServerGameSettings.json file in your server's save directory. Stop the server before making changes, save the file, and restart. Changes take effect on the next server start. Some settings can be changed without a world reset, but game mode changes between PvE and PvP generally require a fresh start.

tips

With Reactor's V Rising hosting, you can customize all game settings through SFTP access to your server files. Automatic backups ensure you can roll back if a settings change does not work out as expected.
