Changing Your Server Tier

You can upgrade or downgrade your server tier at any time from the Subscriptions page. Reactor makes it easy to scale your server up or down based on your needs.

Accessing Tier Changes​

  1. Navigate to your Dashboard or Subscriptions page
  2. Find the subscription you want to modify
  3. Click the "Change Tier" button next to the subscription

Upgrade Process​

Upgrading to a higher tier gives you immediate access to more resources with a prorated charge for the remaining days in your billing period.

How Upgrades Work​

  1. Immediate Effect: Server resources (CPU, RAM, storage) are upgraded right away
  2. Prorated Billing: You only pay the difference for the remaining days in your current billing period
  3. Automatic Payment: Uses your stored payment method (no redirect needed)
  4. New Monthly Price: Starting from your next billing date, you'll pay the new tier's monthly price

Example Upgrade Calculation​

Let's say you're upgrading from Bronze (€9.99/mo) to Silver (€19.99/mo) with 15 days remaining in your billing period:

Price difference: €19.99 - €9.99 = €10.00
Daily rate: €10.00 ÷ 30 days = €0.33/day
Prorated charge: €0.33 × 15 days = €5.00

✓ Pay €5.00 now
✓ Server upgraded immediately
✓ Next billing: €19.99/month starting Feb 1st

Steps to Upgrade​

  1. Click "Change Tier" on your subscription
  2. Select "Upgrade"
  3. Choose your desired higher tier
  4. Review the prorated charge and new monthly price
  5. Click "Confirm Upgrade"
  6. Payment is processed automatically using your stored payment method
  7. Your server resources are upgraded within minutes
Instant Upgrade

Upgrades happen immediately! Your stored payment method is charged the prorated amount, and your server gets more CPU, RAM, and storage right away.

Downgrade Process​

Downgrading to a lower tier saves you money starting from your next billing period. You keep your current tier resources until the end of your billing period.

How Downgrades Work​

  1. End-of-Period Effect: Server resources are reduced when your current billing period ends
  2. No Immediate Charge: No payment is processed immediately
  3. No Refund: You keep using your current tier resources until the period ends
  4. Lower Monthly Price: Starting from your next billing date, you'll pay the new tier's reduced price

Example Downgrade Calculation​

Let's say you're downgrading from Gold (€49.99/mo) to Bronze (€9.99/mo):

Current billing period ends: Feb 1st
Current price: €49.99/month
New price: €9.99/month
Monthly savings: €40.00/month

✓ Keep Gold resources until Feb 1st
✓ Next billing: €9.99/month starting Feb 1st
✓ Save €40.00 every month

Steps to Downgrade​

  1. Click "Change Tier" on your subscription
  2. Select "Downgrade"
  3. Choose your desired lower tier
  4. Review the savings and effective date
  5. Click "Confirm Downgrade"
  6. Downgrade is scheduled for the end of your billing period
  7. You'll receive a confirmation email
Keep Your Resources

When you downgrade, you keep your current tier's resources until the end of your billing period. There's no refund for the current period.

Payment Requirements​

Upgrade Requirements​

  • Stored Payment Method: You must have a valid payment method on file
  • Active Mandate: Your payment method must support recurring charges
  • Sufficient Funds: Ensure your payment method can cover the prorated charge
Credit Card in Test Mode

In development/test environments, only credit card payments support upgrades. Other payment methods (iDEAL, Bancontact, PayPal) require SEPA mandates which are not available in Mollie test mode.

In production, all payment methods with active mandates support upgrades.

Downgrade Requirements​

  • Active Subscription: Subscription must be in "active" status
  • No Pending Changes: You cannot have another tier change already scheduled

Frequently Asked Questions​

Can I cancel a scheduled downgrade?​

Yes! If you've scheduled a downgrade but change your mind, you can upgrade before the downgrade takes effect, which will cancel the scheduled downgrade.

What happens to my data when I upgrade/downgrade?​

Your server data, backups, and configurations are preserved during tier changes. Only the allocated resources (CPU, RAM, storage limits) change.

Can I upgrade and downgrade multiple times?​

Yes, you can change tiers as often as needed. However, each upgrade will charge a prorated amount, and downgrades only take effect at the end of your billing period.

What if my payment fails during an upgrade?​

If the prorated payment fails, your tier change will not be processed. Your subscription will remain on the current tier, and you'll receive an email notification. You can retry the upgrade once you've updated your payment method.

Do billing cycles change when I upgrade/downgrade?​

No, your billing cycle (monthly, quarterly, yearly) stays the same. Only the price per billing cycle changes based on your new tier.

Can I upgrade/downgrade during a trial period?​

Tier changes are only available for active, paid subscriptions. Trial subscriptions must be converted to paid subscriptions first.
